The Capulets and the Montagues

The Capulets and the Montagues

THE CAPULETS AND THE MONTAGUES is Dakin Matthews’ new rhyming verse translation of Lope de Vega’s play Castelvines y Monteses (c. 1609). Based on the same source material Shakespeare used for his Romeo and Juliet, Lope brings the audience on a different journey in his tale of the famous star-crossed lovers. This volume is part of the Diversifying the Classics project at UCLA, which fosters awareness and appreciation of the Hispanic Golden Age and gives theater professionals the materials and tools to explore its rich tradition.
