At this point in Nietzsche's life, as it is reflected on Beyond Good and Evil , he viewed certain types of philosophy as counterproductive, such as universalism, or the idea that some specific truths could be applied across all ages, to all people, in all societies. Instead, he believed that it depends on the time, situation, and perspective to figure out when personal sacrifice is worth the public good.
